Matsushima is in the northeastern part of Japan. Our prefecture, Miyagi, can be reached by bullet train from Tokyo in about two hours. Because there are over 260 large and small islands in the bay, Matsushima is counted as one of the Three Most Scenic spots of Japan alongside Kyoto’s Amanohashidate and Hiroshima’s Miyajima. It’s this picturesque scenery that attracts visitors from not only within Japan, but from around the world.
